I'm a single dad who chose to walk away from a $100k/year job so that I could spend my days at home with my kids. To that end, I am seeking freelance and telecommute work (with flexible scheduling) to support my family.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and have been working since 2005, supporting a variety of industries ranging from employment, to aerospace, to law enforcement and military.
I'm extremely detail-oriented and can handle multitasking under tight deadlines. I can also manage a team of engineers and keep them efficient, effective, and on-task.
In addition, I have excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills. I'm very logical and analytical - two traits which serve me well in this capacity.
I also blog from time to time. When I have a difficult or interesting problem to solve, I try to write the solution out for others. You can see that at http://www.thomasmonaco.com
I'm sort of a jack-of-all-trades. I love learning new technologies, and will accept any excuse to do so. I have a wide skill-set, including but not limited to:
I've been freelancing since about mid-2010. Currently I spend most of my time writing and maintaining web scrapers, built in Java, and hunting down and fixing Wordpress bugs. I also do a fair amount of Linux administration, both professionally and for my personal projects.
From mid-2009 until mid-2010, I led a team of engineers responsible for maintenance of company-internal web applications (j2ee and ColdFusion) and services. I resigned that position to become a stay at home dad.
Prior to that, I spent 4 years doing n-tier java applications, including mobile device support, and integration with 3rd party tools.
I spent my time in college supporting a network of 50+ Windows and Mac desktop clients, and a handful of Linux servers. I was also responsible for purchasing of new equipment and design of new architectures, such as our secure, multi-site VPN configuration - back when OpenVPN wasn't as easy to work with as it is today.
OTB Software LLC earns an estimated $11k/mo. That's 8.4× the typical agency and more than 99.73% of everyone we track.
In my free time, I like to learn and play with new technologies, as well as refine my existing skill set. Some new stuff I'm playing with includes Android development, Ruby on Rails, Python (and Django), and R.
